Now I know enough from experience that an appealing cover does not guarantee a good read (and likewise, a plain cover can have a terrific story tucked inside), but it sure does get the book in my hands! Looking through the books that I added to my personal library this year, there are several books that I thought had fabulous cover art, and it appears that many 2010 releases will be even more stunning!

These new editions of Daphne du Maurier's classics are just gorgeous! I want to sail away with a pirate on that ship!
This is my favorite cover, but unfortunately, the artwork was better than the plot.

I know what you mean...I don't mean or try to judge a book by the cover, but I find I am always looking for a book with that exceptional cover. There is just something about it that enhances the reading excitement!

I absolutely judge a book by its cover! It's my understanding that authors don't necessarily have a say in the cover design. Is that true? I love the new Daphne D books. We are reading this one as a bookclub this fall.

Hi, Kim - You know, I'm not 100% positive, but from what I've read while visiting authors' blogs, authors many times have very little say in their cover art. I recall Diana Gabaldon (of Outlander) discussing her displeasure that her earliest book covers had pictures of a lady (supposedly Claire) on them and she didn't want that. As her books became bestsellers and went into reprint, she seems now to have won that battle.
Sadly yes, I do. I really, really do. I've bought a book because of the cover. (lol)
I am a huge cover snob! I love them in fact I want to print some out for my reading room and actually frame them..... LOVE covers and they are the first sell for me.
